Point Person: Larry Legner, Christian Service Director – 484-595-1163
Malvern Prep has not forgotten our brothers and sisters in Haiti. On Wednesday, January 24th, the School held an assembly for the students explaining the history of the country and what has happened as a result of the earthquake. The Malvern Community will be helping the relief efforts in several ways.
How we are helping:
Collection at Chapel for Catholic Relief Services
At Chapel Service on Monday, February 1, we will have a special service for the Haitian people. At the end of the service we will have a collection where you and your sons can make a financial donation. The funds will be sent to Catholic Relief Services.
Collecting Medical Supplies for Christian Service International
Starting next week we will be collecting medical supplies. One program is for CSI (Christian Services International). They have requested items you may have in your home right now, i.e. crutches, walkers, or boots used for an injured foot. They can also use any medical equipment not in use at a medical practice or hospital. The contact is Dr. Tony Coletta. He has been to Haiti many times as a volunteer doctor. He has already been there since the earthquake and is back home in the area now. He will return to Haiti on February 20 and will personally bring everything we collect with him. He wants to guarantee the Malvern Community that these items will be in the hands of the Haitian people on Feb. 21. If you have any of the mentioned items in your basement, garage or attic, please consider sending them to Malvern so we can help those who are desperately in need. Items can be dropped off in room 106 - Mr. Ostick’s room.
Collecting Medical Supplies for Project Medishare
The other supply collection program is for Project Medishare. Head Trainer and Assistant Athletic Director Bill Mills is the contact person for this project. The items requested have been divided up by grade. We ask that if possible you send your son in to homeroom with any of the items you are comfortable with sending.
Middle School: Gauze Pads and Band-Aids
Freshmen: Ibuprofen, Tylenol, Baby Wipes
Sophomores: Super Glue, Neosporin, Large Band-Aids
Juniors: Surgical Tape, Gauze Sponges, Hand Sanitizer, Kling wrap
Seniors: Protein/Snack Bars, Ace Wraps, Coban (self stick wrap)
We will have the collection for both medical supply groups starting immediately and ending on Thursday, February, 11. Your contributions both financial and medical are greatly appreciated by all of us at Malvern and the Haitian people who will benefit from your kindness.
Sincerely,
Larry Legner
